Rise Up. Speak Up. Join Up.

The Brahmbhatt Samaj UK was formally founded in 1974 as an Association in the United Kingdom to promote social, educational, economic, and cultural activities amongst its community that had arrived as immigrants from East Africa from the 1960s onwards and later from India.Since their arrival in the UK, the Brahmbhatt community has achieved exceptional success in the fields of education, commerce, healthcare, and social fields, and enjoys strong and vibrant links with Brahmbhatt associations in India, North America, Africa and Australasia. The UK Association regularly elects its representatives and is proud to have undertaken countless activities in the past 49 years for the benefit of its 1000+ strong community in the UK, as well their much larger brethren in India. The Brahmbhatts have a fascinating history, with their origins dating back to the Brahmmavaivart Purana (a factual scripture of ancient times) which states that’ Brahmbhatt’ was born of a Kshatriya father and a Brahmana mother – later came to be known as Brahma-Kshatriyas.The Kshatriya was a warrior community and Brahmana were renowned for their knowledge of religious scriptures, so their offspring ‘Brahmbhatt’ was blessed with two rare qualities; A love for literature and a spirit to fight and defend. These qualities became synonymous with the community and gained much patronage amongst the mighty North Indian Rajput kingdoms during the ancient and Middle Ages, where they served in royal courts as historians, poets, gifted scholars, and warriors. After the 11th-century Turkish conquests, the community migrated to other parts of India (mostly Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh) where they took on names such as Rao, Rai, Ranak, Sharma, Dashondi, Raya.Other Brahmbhatt were bestowed titles such as Inamdar, Jagirdar, Desai, and Rao by royal kingdoms for services rendered to the state. The surname of Barot is similarly linked to their qualities, with the split word ‘Baar-hoth’ meaning 12 lips, implying a person who has the knowledge, strength, or ability to speak for 12 persons.Back to current days, the Brahmbhatts remain a proud, brave and respected community in the UK and whichever part of the world they live and continue to make valuable contributions to the state and society as noble citizens.-    Shri Sunilbhai Inamdar, Trustee and Past President.
